Barnsley
£35,000 - £42,000 + early Friday finish
The Company
Established in the 1980s, our client is a privately owned engineering business specialising in wear and abrasion-resistant solutions for customers across the cement, waste-to-energy, aggregates and steel industries. With expertise in reverse engineering and a well-equipped machine shop, they continue to invest in the latest CNC machining and plasma cutting technology to deliver high-quality engineered products.
Employing around 35 people, they have built a strong reputation for quality and reliability, setting them apart from lower-cost imported alternatives. They have ambitious plans to grow from £6 million to £10 million turnover.
As a result they are looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer with immediate effect.
The Role
As the sole Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for producing bespoke engineering designs for wear and abrasion-resistant components and fabrications. This is a varied role, combining design work with engineering administration, where you'll work closely with production to deliver high-quality solutions for customers across a range of heavy industries:
Produce 2D and 3D engineering drawings using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor, creating both new designs and modifying existing ones to meet customer requirements.
Reverse engineer worn or underperforming components to develop improved, longer-lasting solutions.
Design a range of products, from profile-cut parts to large fabrications including hoppers, cyclones, chutes and ducting.
Prepare route cards, order materials and maintain the ProNest plasma cutting system to support the manufacturing process.
Collaborate with production and other departments to ensure designs are accurate, practical and delivered on time.
The Candidate
We're looking for a confident and self-motivated Mechanical Design Engineer who is keen to take ownership of the role and become a valued long-term member of the team. You'll be proactive, hands-on and comfortable working independently, with support available when needed. You will have:
Strong experience using 2D AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor 3D.
Experience with ProNest or a similar nesting/CAM software.
The confidence to manage your own workload and make design decisions independently.
A positive attitude, strong work ethic and a genuine appetite to learn, contribute and succeed.
The Benefits
For this Mechanical Design Engineer role the following benefits are on offer:
£35,000 - £42,000 base salary
Early Friday finish
Standard pension
Standard holiday
Additional holiday days with years’ service
