We are currently recruiting for an Allocations & Verifications Officer to join a Housing team within a South East London Council on a 3-month ongoing contract.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Council’s statutory rehousing responsibilities under Part VI of the Housing Act 1996, delivering an efficient, customer-focused allocations and verification service.
Key Responsibilities
Manage housing allocations and verification processes for tenants and residents applying for transfers and social housing.
Allocate Council properties and make nominations to Housing Associations and Housing Co-operatives, including mobility schemes where appropriate.
Advertise properties and shortlist prospective tenants through Choice-Based Lettings (CBL), ensuring applicants meet the relevant needs and qualification criteria.
Make direct offers in accordance with the Council’s Housing Allocation Scheme, policies and procedures.
Undertake detailed verification and investigation of housing applications, including home visits where necessary.
Maintain a strong working knowledge of housing allocation policies, legislation and procedures.
Work closely with housing providers, including ALMOs and Registered Social Landlords (RSLs), to ensure effective use of social housing stock.
Monitor provider performance and develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Produce accurate management information, data and reports relating to the allocation and supply of social housing.
Liaise with teams across Housing and other Council directorates to support a joined-up approach to service delivery.
Ensure all applications and allocations are processed accurately, efficiently and within relevant timescales.About YouThe ideal candidate will have:
Previous experience working within housing allocations, verification or rehousing services.
Strong knowledge of Part VI of the Housing Act 1996 and social housing allocation processes.
Experience working with Choice-Based Lettings (CBL) and housing registers.
Experience assessing housing applications and verifying eligibility and qualification.
Excellent knowledge of housing allocation schemes, policies and procedures.
Strong investigation, analytical and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Experience working with housing associations, ALMOs, RSLs and other housing providers.
The ability to manage a busy caseload and work effectively to deadlines.
Strong IT, administrative and report-writing skills.Interested?
