How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

As the Maintenance Technician – Mechanical Focus at Midland Lead you will:

Provide practical input into equipment upgrades, repairs and site improvement projects.
Work collaboratively with production colleagues, operators and managers to understand priorities, share knowledge and keep equipment running safely and reliably.
Communicate openly and honestly about issues, risks, progress and realistic timescales, raising concerns early so they can be dealt with properly.
Diagnose and resolve breakdowns across plant, machinery and site equipment.
Respond quickly and safely to urgent issues, prioritising work to minimise production downtime by resolving mechanical and electrical problems.
Work on traditional plant machinery and mechanical systems, including gears, motors, bearings, chains, hydraulics, pneumatics and associated equipment.
Support site close-down and security responsibilities when required, helping ensure the site is left safe and secure at the end of the day.
Here at Midland Lead, we are looking for a Maintenance Technician – Mechanical Focus with the following experience and skills:

Significant and demonstrable maintenance experience in manufacturing, heavy engineering, metal processing or a similar plant environment.
Confident diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults on plant machinery and site equipment.
Experience with gears, motors, bearings, chains, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical fitting and practical repairs.
Able to carry out reactive maintenance, planned preventative maintenance and practical repair work.
Willing and able to support basic electrical activities where appropriate as part of a small, multi-skilled engineering team.
Able to prioritise urgent work, communicate clearly with operators and managers, and plan activity around production needs.
Strong safety awareness and willingness to support site close-down/security responsibilities.
    What Midland Lead can offer:

A friendly, supportive and values-driven family-run working environment.
A role where your ideas, judgement and practical experience will be listened to.
The chance to help shape better maintenance practices and improve machinery reliability.
A good salary and benefits package, including life assurance, access to GP appointments, Costco membership, volunteering opportunities and wellbeing support.
30 days annual leave (rising to 33 days service-related holiday), and Company Sick Pay (following successful completion of probationary period).
Training and development in your area of expertise.
The opportunity to be part of a business with a strong sustainability focus and a proud manufacturing heritage.
