How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Mechanical Design Engineer
    Sutton in Ashfield
    £35,000 - £40,000
    Monday - Thursday 07:00 - 16:15, and Friday 07:00 - 12:30.

    We are looking for a Mechanical Designer to join our mechanical design and development team.
    This role combines technical and product development. You will be joining a team of Development Engineers and Design/Project Engineers while driving the design, development and continuous improvement of our product range.
    Working closely with Production Management and colleagues across sales, manufacturing, electrical engineering and marketing, you will play a key role in delivering innovative, commercially viable products and bringing new ideas to market.

    Mechanical Design Engineer Key Responsibilities
    - Assist the development of new products from concept through to manufacture.
    - Review existing products and identify opportunities to improve performance, quality, manufacturability and cost.
    - Work closely with sales teams and customers to develop and prototype new product concepts.
    - Manage design projects, ensuring delivery to agreed timescales and budgets.
    - Preparation of engineering calculations, specifications and technical documentation.
    - Ensure products comply with relevant legislation, standards and quality requirements.
    - Support technical submissions, customer enquiries and sales activities when required.
    - Work collaboratively with manufacturing and electrical engineering teams to deliver practical and cost-effective solutions.
    - Monitor developments in relevant technologies and materials and assess their suitability for future products.

    Mechanical Design Engineer About You
    You will have a strong mechanical engineering background and experience within a manufacturing or product development environment.
    You should be able to demonstrate:
    - Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline (BEng).
    - Proven experience in a design engineering or engineering management role.
    - Strong product development and project management skills.
    - Good understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacture principles.
    - Ability to balance technical requirements with commercial objectives.
    - Strong communication skills.
    - Experience producing and reviewing engineering calculations, specifications and technical documentation.
    - Knowledge of quality and environmental management systems.
    - Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems would be advantageous.
    - Experience with digital engineering tools and capabilities, such as CAD, simulation/FEA
