How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Assistant Quantity Surveyor

    Location: Glasgow
    Working Pattern: Hybrid – Office and Home-Based Working
    Sector: Nuclear Defence / Major Infrastructure
    Salary: Up to £50,000

    We are recruiting an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a growing commercial team supporting major programmes within the UK nuclear defence sector.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor at the early stages of their career to gain exposure to large-scale infrastructure and engineering projects while working alongside experienced commercial professionals. You will receive support and mentoring while contributing to nationally significant programmes within a highly regulated environment.

    The Role

    As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial team across both pre and post-contract activities, assisting with procurement, cost management and commercial reporting.

    Working closely with Senior Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Managers, you will help ensure projects are delivered efficiently, commercially and in accordance with contractual requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    Assist with cost planning, estimating and budgeting.
    Support procurement and tendering activities.
    Prepare commercial documentation and assist with contract administration.
    Help manage subcontractor packages and payment applications.
    Assist in the preparation of valuations, forecasts and cost reports.
    Monitor project costs and identify commercial risks.
    Support change management and compensation event processes.
    Liaise with project teams, suppliers and subcontractors.
    Ensure compliance with company commercial procedures and governance.
    Assist with maintaining accurate commercial records and documentation.

    Skills & Experience

    Candidates should ideally demonstrate:

    Experience within a Quantity Surveying or commercial role (placement or industry experience considered).
    Knowledge of NEC3 or NEC4 contracts is desirable.
    Good commercial awareness and analytical skills.
    Strong communication and organisational skills.
    Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
    Good Microsoft Excel and reporting skills.
    Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or similar (or working towards).

    Security Requirements

    Due to the nature of the projects, the successful candidate may be required to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of UK security clearance.
