How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Quality Engineer (SFIA 5)

    Contract Duration: 6 months

    Rate: £460 per day Inside IR35

    Location: At least 2x per month in Telford

    Overview

    We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join the CoreMod Programme, a major transformation initiative focused on modernising HMRC's tax administration systems. You will work within agile Scrum teams of 4-8 engineers, delivering high-quality solutions through two-week sprint cycles across a diverse and modern technology landscape.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a quality-focused engineer who is passionate about automation, continuous improvement, and embedding quality throughout the software development lifecycle.

    Key Responsibilities

    Design, build and implement automated testing solutions from the ground up.
    Develop and execute test strategies using TDD, BDD and risk-based testing approaches.
    Champion shift-left testing practices and support CI/CD pipeline integration.
    Coach and mentor development teams on Quality Engineering best practices.
    Perform testing across all levels, including:
    Unit Testing
    System Testing
    Integration Testing
    Non-Functional Testing
    Analyse business requirements and translate them into effective test approaches.
    Create, manage and maintain test data and testing artefacts.
    Collaborate closely with developers through pair programming and agile delivery practices.
    Support defect analysis, root cause investigation and quality improvement initiatives.

    Essential Technical Capabilities

    Candidates must be able to demonstrate:

    Ability to read, understand and interpret Java unit tests (e.g. JUnit) written by developers to support test analysis and defect investigation.
    Experience designing and developing automated end-to-end and system tests using Playwright with Java.
    Strong capability in developing and maintaining automated test frameworks and scripts in Java across:
    UI Testing
    API Testing
    System-Level TestingRequired Skills & Experience

    Proven experience in Quality Engineering and software testing.
    Strong understanding of automated testing principles and frameworks.
    Experience working with CI/CD pipelines.
    Proficiency with Git and GitLab.
    Knowledge of Agile and Scrum delivery methodologies.
    Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
    Experience coaching and mentoring team members.
    Quality-focused mindset with a continuous improvement approach.
    Ability to work effectively within cross-functional delivery teams.
