How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Mobile Field Service Engineer. Refuse Vehicles & EVs

    Location: Field-based. M4 Corridor and West London
    Salary: £52,000 to £80,000 per year, depending on experience
    Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

    The Role

    A specialist engineering company is looking for an experienced Mobile Field Service Engineer to service, diagnose and repair refuse collection vehicles, bin lifters and electric vehicle systems.

    Working independently at customer depots and roadside locations, you will help maximise vehicle uptime while ensuring all repairs meet safety and compliance standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    Service, inspect and maintain refuse collection vehicles and bin lifters

    Diagnose hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and electrical faults

    Repair and replace pumps, valves, rams, wiring looms, sensors and control systems

    Support fault-finding on EV refuse vehicles and 12/24V auxiliary systems

    Attend breakdowns and emergency call-outs

    Complete LOLER-related inspections and identify safety-critical defects

    Use OEM diagnostic equipment, wiring diagrams and hydraulic schematics

    Complete digital job cards, service reports and parts records

    Liaise professionally with customers, depot managers and drivers

    Requirements

    Experience working on refuse vehicles, HGV bodies, bin lifters or heavy plant

    Strong hydraulic, electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills

    Previous mobile field service experience

    NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive or HGV Engineering

    Full UK driving licence

    Confident using digital systems and diagnostic equipment

    Experience with LOLER inspections, EV or high-voltage systems, HGV maintenance or CODESYS diagnostics would be advantageous.

    Package

    Salary of £52,000 to £80,000, depending on experience
