How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Shift Electrician – Heavy Engineering

    Salary: £52,771.91

    Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off (2 days / 2 nights), 7 cycles, 18 days off

    About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Shift Electrician with a proven background in heavy engineering, heavy manufacturing, steel, metals, mining, power generation, cement, quarrying or other continuous process industries. This is a hands-on role working on large-scale industrial plant and equipment in a demanding production environment. The successful candidate will be confident diagnosing complex electrical faults, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, and working safely on heavy industrial assets to maximise plant availability.

If your experience has primarily been within commercial buildings, domestic installations or light industrial environments, this role is unlikely to be suitable.

    Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Engineering Team, you will be responsible for maintaining the reliability and availability of critical plant equipment by carrying out both planned preventative maintenance and emergency breakdown repairs.

    Your responsibilities will include:

Diagnosing and repairing electrical faults on heavy industrial plant and machinery.

Maintaining AC and DC motors, generators, drives and associated equipment.

Fault finding on motor control systems, PLC-controlled equipment, instrumentation and electrical distribution systems.

Working on medium and low voltage power systems.

Maintaining cranes, lifting equipment, compressors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Installing, servicing and testing electrical equipment and lighting systems.

Carrying out preventative maintenance to minimise downtime.

    Recording maintenance activities through SAP/CMMS.

Identifying recurring equipment failures and recommending permanent engineering improvements.

Supporting Management of Change (MOC) processes.

Issuing and working under Electrical and Mechanical Permit to Work systems.

Working closely with production and engineering teams to improve equipment reliability and plant performance.

Maintaining the highest standards of safety, reporting hazards, near misses and incidents, and ensuring compliance with site procedures.

    What We're Looking For

We're seeking someone who thrives in a fast-paced heavy industrial environment and enjoys solving technically challenging problems.

    Essential Experience

Significant experience working as an Electrician within a heavy engineering or continuous process industry.

Experience in heavy engineering sectors such as steel, metals, mining, power generation, heavy manufacturing, paper mills, chemical processing, cement, ports or similar industrial environments.

Strong electrical fault-finding skills on heavy industrial equipment.

    Experience maintaining:

    Large AC and DC motors

    Medium and Low Voltage systems

    PLC-controlled machinery

    Variable speed drives

    Cranes and lifting equipment

    Hydraulic and pneumatic systems

Experience working with SAP or other Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

Ability to work safely under Permit to Work and isolation procedures.

    Qualifications

Recognised Electrical Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification.

    Formal Electrical Engineering qualification.

17th/18th Edition Wiring Regulations (or equivalent).

Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation within heavy industrial environments.

    Personal Attributes

    The successful candidate will demonstrate:

    Strong analytical and fault-finding ability.

A proactive approach to equipment reliability and continuous improvement.

    Excellent communication skills.

A flexible approach to shift working and responding to plant breakdowns.

Commitment to working safely at all times.

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multi-disciplined engineering team.

    Why Join Us?

This is an opportunity to work on large-scale industrial equipment where no two days are the same. You'll be part of a highly skilled engineering team responsible for maintaining critical production assets within a challenging and rewarding heavy engineering environment.

We're looking for engineers who enjoy working on big machinery, solving complex technical problems, and taking pride in keeping a continuous process operation running safely and efficiently.
