How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Looking for more than just your next finance role?

    The Opportunity

    Athwal Resourcing is delighted to be supporting an established, purpose-led organisation to recruit an experienced Senior Finance Manager to join its Senior Management Team.

    As Senior Finance Manager, you’ll combine strategic leadership with operational excellence, taking full ownership of financial performance, governance and compliance while acting as a trusted adviser to the CEO and Senior Management Team.

    This opportunity has arisen following the planned retirement of a long-serving and highly respected finance leader, giving the successful candidate a comprehensive handover and strong financial foundations to build upon.

    If you’re looking for a role where your contribution genuinely matters, where you’ll have a seat at the leadership table and where your work will help shape the future of the organisation, we’d love to hear from you.

    The Role

    Key responsibilities as Senior Finance Manager include:

    * Strategy: Work with the CEO and Senior Management Team to shape financial strategy, leading annual budgeting, medium-term planning and cash-flow management and modelling strategic options across membership income, fundraising, events, investments and reserves.

    * Financial Management: Prepare and present timely, insightful management accounts, budgets, forecasts and dashboards for the Senior Management Team and Board.

    * Leadership: Lead, mentor and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and strong financial literacy across the wider organisation.

    * Financial Control: Own the financial control framework, including delegations, authorisation limits and accounting policies, ensuring robust, well-governed financial processes across the organisation.

    * Governance: Present financial papers and insight to the Board, Trustees and Finance & Audit Committee, ensuring timely distribution of accurate reporting and supporting sound governance decisions.

    * Compliance: Ensure compliance with the Companies Acts, Charities Act, Charity SORP (FRS 102), HMRC, Gift Aid and VAT, and lead statutory accounts preparation and external audit through to a clean outcome.

    * Risk & Controls: Lead the financial elements of the corporate risk register, maintain effective internal controls and fraud prevention, and own the finance systems roadmap, partnering with wider teams on key integrations.

    * Business Partnering: Act as a trusted adviser to the CEO, providing financial insight, challenge and clear, actionable analysis to support strategic and operational decision-making.

    * Stakeholder Relationships: Build strong relationships with Trustees, auditors, investment managers and professional advisers, becoming the organisation’s trusted finance professional both internally and externally.

    About You

    You’ll be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with senior finance experience gained within the charity, not-for-profit or wider public sector.

    You’ll enjoy operating at both a strategic and operational level and be confident working with senior stakeholders, Boards and Trustees.

    You’ll also bring:

    * Strong technical knowledge of charity accounting, statutory reporting and financial governance;

    * The ability to influence and communicate with confidence and build relationships;

    * A collaborative and supportive leadership style;

    * The ability to add value and use finance to support better decision-making.

    * Experience developing people and building high-performing teams;

    * A continuous improvement mindset and a passion for delivering meaningful change

    Why Apply?

    It’s an opportunity to join a respected organisation where finance plays a key role in shaping the future, where collaboration is valued and where your professional expertise will genuinely influence decision-making.

    In return you’ll enjoy:

    * A competitive salary,

    * A strong pension scheme,

    * Critical illness cover, income protection and life assurance,

    * Study support, training and a broader professional remit,

    * Hybrid and flexible working,

    * Wellbeing support, including access to counselling,

    * A broad and varied leadership role with the opportunity to influence organisational strategy,

    * A supportive and collaborative culture,

    * The opportunity to make a meaningful difference within a purpose-led organisation.

    Interested?

    If you’re looking for a role where you can combine technical excellence with strategic leadership and want to make a genuine impact within a values-led organisation, we’d love to hear from you.

    Please contact Devya Athwal at Athwal Resourcing for a confidential discussion
