How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Project Engineering Manager

    Location: Workington, Cumbria
    Contract: Permanent
    Reporting to: Head of Projects

    Lead the engineering delivery of nationally significant infrastructure projects

    We're looking for an experienced Project Engineering Manager to join our Technical Services team and provide engineering leadership across major infrastructure projects at Sellafield.

    Reporting to the Head of Projects, you'll play a pivotal role in leading multidisciplinary engineering teams, ensuring engineering excellence throughout the project lifecycle, and supporting both project delivery and work-winning activities. This is an exciting opportunity to shape complex engineering solutions, drive innovation, and help deliver some of the UK's most challenging and rewarding infrastructure projects.

    What you'll be doing

    As Project Engineering Manager, you'll be responsible for:

    Leading the engineering function across designated projects and sectors, ensuring the successful delivery of engineering activities.
    Managing and developing engineering teams, including Responsible Engineers, Design Managers, Designers, Temporary Works Coordinators and CDM representatives.
    Providing engineering leadership throughout feasibility, design, construction, commissioning and project handover.
    Acting as the lead engineering assurance authority, ensuring compliance with company procedures, client requirements and industry standards.
    Undertaking the duties of the CDM Principal Designer and ensuring design risks are identified, managed and reduced.
    Supporting project bids and tender submissions by providing technical expertise and engineering solutions.
    Promoting innovative engineering methods, value engineering and the adoption of new technologies to improve project delivery.
    Working collaboratively with clients, construction teams, quality, BIM and Digital teams, and supply chain partners to achieve successful project outcomes.
    Ensuring engineering processes remain aligned with current legislation, industry standards and client requirements.
    Driving continuous improvement by embedding lessons learned, engineering best practice and technical excellence across projects.
    Supporting the recruitment, mentoring and professional development of engineering teams, helping to build future capability across the business.
    Promoting a strong culture of health, safety, quality and environmental compliance throughout all engineering activities.What we're looking for

    We're seeking an experienced engineering leader with a strong background in major infrastructure or construction projects and a passion for delivering engineering excellence.

    You'll ideally have:

    Degree qualification in Civil Engineering or another relevant infrastructure engineering discipline.
    Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status or equivalent professional accreditation.
    A minimum of three years' experience in a similar engineering leadership role with a Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor.
    Significant experience across design, construction and engineering management within major infrastructure projects.
    Strong understanding of CDM Regulations and Principal Designer responsibilities.
    Knowledge of NEC contracts and construction delivery processes.
    Familiarity with client engineering procedures, gated project processes and engineering assurance requirements.
    Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
    Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and developing technical talent.
    The ability to collaborate effectively with clients, consultants, contractors and supply chain partners.
    The capability to deputise for the Project Manager when required.Why join us?
