How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Job Title: Principal Controls Engineer

    Job Type: Permanent

    Start Date: ASAP

    Location: Whitehaven

    Working Pattern: Hybrid - typically 3 days per week in the office

    Role Information

    We're looking for a Controls Engineer to join a specialist engineering team supporting the development, maintenance and enhancement of advanced control systems. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a variety of technically challenging projects, collaborating with internal teams, customers and suppliers to deliver reliable, high-quality engineering solutions.

    You'll play a key role in managing control system projects, supporting service contracts and implementing product upgrades, while ensuring all work is delivered safely, efficiently and in line with company standards.

    Key responsibilities include:

    Managing and coordinating control system development projects and implementing modifications to gas turbine control logic.
    Maintaining, troubleshooting and upgrading control system hardware, including processors, I/O cards and network infrastructure.
    Providing technical support and fault-finding assistance to plant operations and maintenance teams.
    Working closely with suppliers, providing technical oversight and support throughout project delivery.
    Planning, specifying and witnessing Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
    Investigating process control issues, identifying root causes and delivering effective technical solutions.
    Preparing and maintaining technical documentation, including operating manuals, test procedures and engineering reports.
    Ensuring all engineering activities comply with Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) policies and company procedures.
    Supporting product upgrades, system improvements and continuous improvement initiatives across the business.

    Qualifications & Experience

    To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have:

    A qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
    Strong understanding of process control principles and control system methodologies.
    Experience with control system programming, commissioning, troubleshooting and fault diagnosis.
    Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret technical data and implement effective solutions.
    A proven ability to deliver high-quality engineering work within agreed timescales and budgets.
    The ability to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC).
