How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Plater / Fabricator

    Location: South West / North Devon

    Employment type: Long term PAYE opportunity
    Industry: Marine, defence and heavy engineering

    Pay

    £24.88 per hour PAYE
    £37.32 per hour overtime after 40 hours per week
    £33.09 per hour nights
    £400 weekly travel and lodge allowance

    Estimated gross weekly earnings

    45 hours days: £1,581.80 per week
    67 hours days: £2,402.84 per week
    45 hours nights: £1,910.22 per week
    67 hours nights: £2,731.26 per week

    We are looking to speak with experienced Platers and Fabricators for upcoming long-term engineering work in the South West.

    This opportunity would suit candidates with a background in marine, defence, dockyard, shipbuilding, ship repair, structural fabrication or heavy engineering. The South West has a strong long-term marine and defence engineering market, including major dockyard and infrastructure activity around Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth.

    The work is expected to suit experienced tradespeople who are comfortable working on large-scale engineering programmes where accuracy, safety and quality are essential.

    Key duties

    * Marking out, cutting and preparing steel plate and structural components

    * Fabricating and assembling components from engineering drawings

    * Fitting plates, stiffeners, brackets, frames and structural sections

    * Carrying out dimensional checks before welding

    * Using thermal cutting, grinding and fabrication equipment safely

    * Tack welding and preparing completed assemblies for welders

    * Identifying and correcting alignment or fit-up issues

    * Working closely with welders, fabricators and production teams

    * Maintaining high standards of safety and housekeeping

    Experience required

    * Strong plating or fabrication experience

    * Experience in marine, defence, dockyard, shipbuilding, structural steel or heavy engineering environments

    * Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings

    * Confident marking out and fabricating accurately from drawings

    * Experience working with heavy plate and structural steel

    * Competent using cutting, grinding and fabrication equipment

    * Ability to work independently and as part of a production team
