How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Are you an experienced Legal Secretary looking for a role where you're genuinely valued? If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and take pride in delivering accurate, high-quality work, we would love to hear from you.

Jones Whyte was founded in 2013 with a simple ambition: to be the very best law firm, with clients and our people at its heart. Since then, we have grown into one of Scotland's leading law firms, with over 250 solicitors, legal executives and professional support staff. We offer a wide range of legal services from personal injury and family law to conveyancing and later life planning, and we pride ourselves on a team that combines real legal expertise with genuine care for the people we support.

    The Role:

Jones Whyte are looking to recruit an efficient and organised Legal Secretary to join our busy Personal Injury department. You will work primarily within this department, which is made up of five sub-teams, all of which are supported by the secretarial staff. You will also be responsible for taking and making calls on behalf of the fee earners, relaying accurate and speedy correspondence as well as always ensuring accuracy and professionalism. Previous legal secretarial experience is essential.

A separate Legal Support team handles mail and court dates, allowing you to focus on delivering high-quality secretarial support to fee earners.

We understand the need for a good work-life balance, which is why we offer hybrid working following a full-time training period in the office.

    Responsibilities:

    • Providing comprehensive administrative and secretarial support to fee earners within the Litigation department
    • Audio typing and transcription of correspondence, letters, and legal documents
    • Drafting and formatting court documentation accurately and to deadline
    • Proof-reading documents to ensure accuracy and a consistently high standard of presentation
    • Managing incoming and outgoing calls on behalf of fee earners, relaying information accurately and promptly
    • Handling correspondence with professionalism and attention to detail
    • Providing cross-cover secretarial support to the Family and Dispute Resolution teams as required
    • Maintaining well-organised case files and supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the department

    Requirements:

    • Previous legal secretarial experience, with a solid background in Litigation
    • Proficient audio typist with a high level of accuracy and speed
    • Experience drafting and formatting court documents and legal correspondence
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
    • Ability to prioritise workload and manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    • Professional telephone manner and confident client-facing communication
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Outlook
