How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    M&E Operative / Wireman - National Grid Substation
    Location: Cilfynydd 400kV Substation, South Wales
    Rate: £32.00 per hour
    Contract: Temporary
    Positions Available: 2
    Start Date: 6th July 2026
    End Date: 18th December 2026
    Hours: 50 Hours Per Week (07:30 - 17:30)

    Overview:
    We are currently recruiting for two experienced M&E Operatives / Wiremen to join a major National Grid 400kV Substation project at Cilfynydd.

    This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with previous National Grid substation experience who are confident working within live transmission environments and have the relevant accreditations to support the delivery of M&E installation works.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Carry out electrical and mechanical installation works on a National Grid substation project.
    Install, terminate and support substation wiring and associated equipment.
    Assist with containment, cable installation and general M&E activities.
    Work safely in accordance with National Grid procedures and site-specific requirements.
    Maintain high standards of quality, safety and housekeeping.
    Work closely with supervisors and the wider project team to ensure programme milestones are achieved.Essential Requirements:

    Current National Grid Persons certification.
    Previous National Grid substation experience.
    Relevant qualifications and accreditations to work on National Grid substations.
    Manual Handling
    Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
    Strong understanding of safe systems of work within transmission environments.Desirable:

    Previous experience working as a Wireman on National Grid transmission projects.
    Experience on 275kV or 400kV substations.
    Current and compliant PPE available prior to mobilisation.Please note that candidates who do not hold the required National Grid experience and mandatory certifications will not be considered.
