How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Our client is a growing mechanical building services contractor delivering projects across the commercial, healthcare, education, industrial and residential sectors throughout the Midlands and the UK. Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit an Assistant Mechanical Estimator to join our expanding pre-construction team. The Role Working closely with the Senior Estimators and Commercial Team, you will assist in preparing accurate mechanical tenders while developing your estimating skills within a supportive environment. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in mechanical building services estimating.
    Key Responsibilities
    • Assist in preparing mechanical estimates and tender submissions.
    • Review drawings, specifications and bills of quantities.
    • Produce material take-offs and quantity schedules.
    • Obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
    • Help prepare cost plans and pricing documents.
    • Support the handover of successful projects to the delivery team.
    • Maintain estimating records and databases.
    • Liaise with suppliers, clients and internal departments throughout the tender process. Requirements
    • Previous experience within the Building Services, M&E or Construction industry.
    • Experience in an estimating, engineering, commercial or technical support role would be advantageous.
    • Good understanding of HVAC, plumbing or mechanical building services.
    • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail and organisational ability.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
    • Full UK Driving Licence (preferred). Desirable
    • HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services, or working towards one.
    • Knowledge of estimating software would be beneficial.
    • Previous experience working for a mechanical contractor.
