How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Transport Planning Manager - Barnsley - £35,000 - £39,000 (08:00 - 18:00 Monday - Friday)

    The Role

    This Transport Planning Manager opportunity is with a growing 3PL operation based in Barnsley, supporting a busy, customer-focused transport function within a fast-paced distribution environment.

    The business is looking for an ambitious Transport Planning Manager who is ready to take the next step in their career. This role would be ideal for an experienced Senior Transport Planner or Transport Planner looking to move into their first management position, with the opportunity to lead a planning function while continuing to be involved in the day-to-day operation.

    Working closely with the wider Logistics distribution and supply chain team, you'll be responsible for ensuring transport plans are delivered efficiently, customer expectations are exceeded and operational costs are effectively managed.

    Key responsibilities

    Leading the day-to-day transport planning function across a busy 3PL operation
    Managing and developing the transport planning team to deliver exceptional service levels
    Producing efficient daily transport plans to maximise fleet utilisation and minimise operational costs
    Monitoring live operations and reacting quickly to changing customer requirements
    Working closely with drivers, warehouse teams and the wider Logistics distribution and supply chain operation to ensure seamless delivery performance
    Managing customer expectations and maintaining high levels of service throughout the operation
    Monitoring planning KPIs and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement
    Ensuring compliance with transport legislation, drivers' hours and company procedures

    Key experience

    Previous experience within a transport planning environment, ideally as a Senior Transport Planner or experienced Transport Planner
    Looking to step into your first Transport Planning Manager position, or already operating in a similar leadership role
    Background within a 3PL, retail or fast-paced logistics environment
    Strong knowledge of route planning, fleet utilisation and transport legislation
    Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to develop a planning team
    Experience working within a Logistics distribution and supply chain operation
    Strong commercial awareness with a focus on service, efficiency and cost control
    Experience using Transport Management Systems (TMS) and planning software
