How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Automation Controls Engineer – Lincolnshire – PLCs - Food & Packaging Machinery – Very Limited Travel – £55-60k + Overtime

    Samuel Frank is recruiting for an experienced Automation Controls Engineer to join a growing engineering company specialising in automated processing and packaging machinery.

    This Automation Controls Engineer role will suit someone who enjoys writing PLC software, solving technical problems and seeing projects through from concept to commissioning.

    Key aspects of the Automation Controls Engineer role include:

    * Designing and developing PLC control systems for bespoke automated machinery

    * Programming, testing and commissioning PLC, HMI and SCADA software

    * Supporting installation and commissioning activities both in-house and at customer sites (mainly remotely)

    * Modifying and upgrading existing machine control systems to improve performance and reliability

    * Providing PLC fault finding and remote technical support on existing installations

    * Working closely with electrical and mechanical engineers to deliver complete automation solutions

    * Producing functional design specifications and maintaining software documentation and version control

    * Supporting Field Service Engineers with technical issues and troubleshooting

    * Ensuring machinery complies with relevant UKCA/CE machinery safety standards

    * Office and shop floor based role

    * Any experience of Functional Safety, Electrical design or vision systems would be advantageous

    The successful Automation Controls Engineer will have experience of some of the following:

    * PLC programming experience ideally with Allen Bradley & Omron PLCs

    * HMI and SCADA development

    * Strong understanding of industrial automation, drives, motion control, instrumentation and pneumatics

    * Experience working on packaging machinery, food processing machinery or other special purpose machinery

    * Ability to read electrical schematics and understand control system architecture

    * Knowledge of industrial communications including Profinet, Profibus and Ethernet/IP

    * Strong PLC fault finding and problem-solving skills

    * Full UK driving licence

    The successful Automation Controls Engineer will receive:

    * Salary in the range of £55-60k

    * Overtime and site allowances

    * Company vehicle or travel expenses

    * 25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays

    * Ongoing technical training and development

    * Opportunity to work on innovative automation projects within the food and packaging sector

    This Automation Controls Engineer position would suit a Controls Engineer, PLC Software Engineer, Control Systems Engineer or Automation Engineer with experience of automated machinery, packaging equipment or food processing machinery looking for a varied project-based role with limited travel
