How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Our well known client is one of the UK’s longest‑established consulting engineering practices, known for delivering high‑quality, innovative and sustainable solutions across the built environment. With a growing portfolio of major regional and national projects, their Newcastle office is looking to appoint a Senior Structural Engineer to help lead and develop their expanding structures team.

    The role

As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will take a key technical and project‑leading role within the Newcastle office. You’ll work on a diverse range of building and civil engineering projects across multiple sectors, including residential, commercial, industrial and public realm schemes. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining hands‑on design with team leadership and client interaction.

    Responsibilities

Lead the structural design and analysis of projects from concept through to completion.

Manage and coordinate work with internal teams, clients, architects and contractors.

Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians.

Prepare and review reports, calculations, drawings and specifications.

Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to high-quality standards.

Contribute to bids, tenders and business development where required.

    About

We’re looking for someone who brings both technical excellence and a collaborative mindset.

    Essential:

Degree-qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering.

Chartered or near-chartered with ICE or IStructE.

Strong background in structural engineering design across key materials (steel, RC, timber, masonry).

Proficient with structural analysis software such as Tekla Structural Designer, TEDDS, ETABS or similar.

Ability to manage projects and communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders.

A proactive approach and passion for high-quality engineering delivery.

    Desirable:

Experience within a multidisciplinary consultancy environment.

Knowledge of BIM processes and coordination.

Contribution to team development and mentoring.

    Whats on offer

    Competitive salary and benefits package.

    Hybrid and flexible working options.

Support for continued professional development and chartership progression.

Opportunity to work on high-profile and technically challenging projects.

A supportive, friendly and collaborative office culture backed by a nationwide practice
