How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Whitehaven | Hybrid Working Available 1-2 days/week on site

    Shape the Future of Critical Nuclear Infrastructure
    Are you an experienced Civil & Structural Designer looking to play a key role in the delivery of major engineering projects within one of the UK's most highly regulated industries?
    We're seeking a Principal Designer to join a specialist engineering team in Whitehaven, supporting the delivery of complex design packages across a diverse portfolio of nuclear projects. This is an excellent opportunity to work on challenging brownfield and asset care programmes, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative engineering solutions from concept through to implementation.
    The Role
    Working alongside the Responsible Engineer, you'll be responsible for producing high-quality technical design packages and supporting the delivery of engineering work throughout the full project lifecycle. You'll contribute to the definition, implementation and execution of Civil & Structural design activities while ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations and project requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    Produce Civil & Structural engineering designs using AutoCAD, Revit and Civil 3D.
    Support the Responsible Engineer in the delivery of design work packages.
    Develop engineering solutions from concept through detailed design and project close-out.
    Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
    Review and maintain project documentation in accordance with standards and procedures.
    Ensure designs comply with relevant legislation, industry codes and project requirements.
    Contribute to the successful delivery of projects within challenging timescales.
    What We're Looking For
    ? HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering
    ? Minimum 5 years' experience in a Designer or Principal Designer role
    ? Strong experience delivering multidisciplinary engineering projects
    ? Knowledge of British Standards and Eurocodes relating to reinforced concrete, steel and masonry structures
    ? Experience working within highly regulated industries such as Nuclear, Rail, Offshore, Petrochemical, Bridge Construction or similar sectors
    ? Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit and/or Civil 3D
    ? Understanding of Nuclear Industry standards and requirements
    ? Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
    ? Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative engineering team

    Additional Requirements

    Ability to obtain SC Clearance
    Ability to obtain P1/P4 Passes
    Experience using document management systems such as SLX/Axiom
    Familiarity with Sellafield IT systems including Cimage would be advantageous
