How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Marine Engineer / Technician (Leisure Boats, Not Cruise Ships!)

    Island-based role (relocation encouraged)
Hours: 8:00am – 4:30pm (flexibility available for the right person)

    About Us

We’re a busy and growing marine business with a passion for keeping leisure boats on the water and operating at their best. From engine installations to mid-season breakdowns, no two days are ever the same, and that’s exactly how we like it.

We have a young, energetic team and are now looking for an experienced Marine Engineer who can bring their expertise, get stuck in from day one, and become a key part of the business.

    The Role

This is a hands-on engineering position where you'll be servicing, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of leisure boats rather than spending months working on a single vessel.

You’ll be working on boats ranging from 2 metres to 20 metres in length, with engines from 2HP through to 400HP. The role involves fault finding, repairs, breakdown call-outs, servicing, and the installation of new inboard and outboard engines.

You’ll work both from our workshop and yard, as well as out on-site using a company van. Diagnostic equipment forms an important part of the role, so confidence using modern diagnostic tools is highly beneficial. You'll also be expected to keep accurate job records and communicate effectively with the office team.

    What We're Looking For

We are specifically seeking someone with solid experience working on leisure boats. This is essential for the role.

You should be confident working on inboard engines, which are our priority, although experience with outboards is also valuable. You must be comfortable managing multiple jobs throughout the day, have strong practical problem-solving skills, and hold a full UK driving licence.

The role can be physically demanding at times, so applicants should be comfortable working in confined engine spaces and carrying out hands-on engineering work.

Experience with Volvo Penta would be particularly desirable, although experience with Yanmar, Mercury, Honda, Tohatsu, Beta, Bukh, Yamaha, or Suzuki engines would also be highly regarded.

Additional experience with onboard electrical systems, plumbing, engine installations, or marine diagnostics software would be beneficial, although these are not essential requirements.

Who This Role Is Not For

To save everyone time, this role is unlikely to be suitable for engineers whose experience is exclusively within container ships, tankers, cruise liners, or other large commercial vessels.

Likewise, if you prefer long-term projects involving a single engine or vessel, have no interest in using modern diagnostic equipment, or are looking to move into the marine industry with no relevant experience, this probably won't be the right fit.

    Who Will Thrive Here

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and the challenge of tackling different jobs every day.

We’re looking for a practical engineer who enjoys getting hands-on, takes pride in finding solutions, and works well as part of a team. Experience is important, but so is the willingness to continue learning and developing alongside colleagues.

    Training & Development

We actively invest in our team and offer manufacturer training with Volvo Penta, Yanmar, Honda, and Mercury.

Even if you don't meet every requirement, we're happy to help the right candidate build on their existing experience and develop their skills further.

    Location

This is an island-based position and, from experience, daily commuting is not a practical long-term solution.

We are therefore ideally looking for someone who already lives locally or is open to relocating. A relocation package can be discussed for the right candidate.

    Final Word

If you're the type of engineer who enjoys variety, can diagnose problems with confidence, isn't afraid to get stuck into a busy workload, and wants to work with a growing business in the leisure marine sector, we'd love to hear from you
