How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    About the Role

Amentum is seeking a Civil Ports and Maritime Engineer to join our team, supporting the delivery of critical infrastructure across the UK Defence sector. This role offers a flexible, hybrid working model, combining office and remote working with occasional site visits across the UK.

As part of our UK Ports and Maritime capability, you will gain technical exposure to civil, structural, geotechnical, seismic, and maritime engineering, contributing to the delivery of complex, high-value defence programmes. Working closely with experienced engineers and project teams, you will play an active role in technical delivery while developing your knowledge and experience within a collaborative environment.

Reporting to senior members of the team, you will benefit from structured mentorship and professional development, gaining exposure to a diverse range of projects and disciplines. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your engineering career, supported by industry-leading expertise and a strong culture of learning and continuous improvement.

We are seeking a motivated and proactive engineer with a genuine enthusiasm for civil engineering, a strong willingness to learn, and a drive to solve complex problems. You will thrive in a multi-disciplinary team environment and be eager to develop your technical and professional skills, while contributing innovative ideas and fresh perspectives. The role requires strong communication skills, a proactive and purposeful approach, and the confidence to contribute effectively within the defence sector.

In this exciting role, you will gain experience across the full project lifecycle, from early-stage studies and concept development through to detailed design and construction. You will be encouraged to take ownership of your work, apply a practical approach to problem-solving, and contribute to delivering safe, effective, and high-quality engineering solutions.

At Amentum, we're not just solving problems; we're engineering the future. Our team is driven by an unyielding commitment to innovation, integrity, and collaboration, tackling some of the most significant challenges in science, security, and sustainability. If you're passionate about making a real impact and want to be part of a community that values ethical excellence, this is the place where your ambition can thrive.

Here, we believe that success comes from continuously pushing boundaries and working together to deliver on our promises. We embrace challenges with confidence and are dedicated to creating a secure and vibrant future for all.

We’ll inspire and empower you to deliver your best work so you can evolve, grow and succeed – today and into tomorrow. We offer an exciting range of opportunities to develop your career within a supportive team who always strive to do the right thing for our people, clients and communities.

People are our greatest asset, and we offer a competitive package to retain and attract the best talent.

In addition to the benefits you’d expect, UK employees also receive generous pension contribution, buy sell up to 10 days extra holidays, 9 day fortnight, free single medical cover and digital GP service, family-friendly benefits such as enhanced parental leave pay and free membership of employee assistance and parental programmes, plus reimbursement towards relevant professional development and memberships.

Work-life balance and flexibility is a key focus area for us. We’re happy to discuss hybrid, part-time and flexible working hours, patterns and locations to suit you and our business.

    Here’s What You’ll Need;

    *

A minimum 2:1 MEng degree in Civil Engineering, with a good understanding of core engineering principles

    *

An interest in civil and structural design, with some familiarity with British Standards and Eurocodes through study or practical experience

    *

Enthusiasm for developing knowledge in maritime civil engineering

    *

Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with an interest in applying engineering theory in practical environments

    *

Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multi-disciplinary teams

    *

An organised and motivated approach, with the ability to manage tasks and support project delivery

    *

A commitment to safety, quality and continuous learning, alongside a willingness to contribute and develop professionally

    Our Culture

Our values are built on a strong foundation of safety, integrity, and respect for every individual. People are at the heart of our mission, and we believe in supporting one another through a culture of care and collaboration.

We strive to create a workplace where everyone feels they belong and can thrive. Supporting mental wellbeing and fostering a sense of connection are essential to how we work.
