How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    A leading multi-million-pound civil engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Freelance Site Engineer to support the delivery of a range of infrastructure projects across the Midlands.

    This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established contractor with a strong pipeline of work across the water, flood defence, environmental, and infrastructure sectors, including projects delivered for major water companies and the Environment Agency.

    The Role

    Reporting to the Site Agent and Project Manager, you will be responsible for providing engineering support throughout the construction phase, ensuring works are delivered safely, accurately, and in line with project specifications.

    Key responsibilities include:

    - Setting out and surveying works on site
    - Producing and maintaining accurate site records
    - Interpreting technical drawings and specifications
    - Ensuring quality control procedures are implemented and maintained
    - Managing and reviewing subcontractor works
    - Producing as-built records and site documentation
    - Supporting health, safety, environmental and quality compliance
    - Assisting with planning and coordination of site activities
    - Liaising with project teams, clients, and stakeholders
    - Project Experience Required

    Candidates should have previous experience working on civil engineering projects, ideally including:

    - Water treatment and wastewater infrastructure schemes
    - Pipelines, pumping stations and associated utilities works
    - Environment Agency flood alleviation and flood defence projects
    - River restoration and environmental improvement schemes
    - Drainage, reinforced concrete structures, earthworks and general civils works

    Requirements:

    - Previous experience as a Site Engineer within the civil engineering sector
    - Strong setting out and surveying capability
    - Experience working on water and/or Environment Agency projects preferred
    - Proficient in the use of GPS, Total Station and engineering software
    - Good understanding of quality assurance processes and technical documentation
    - CSCS Card essential
    - HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
    - SMSTS or SSSTS desirable

    £350.00 - £350.00 per hour
