How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in West Lothian, is currently looking to recruit a Maintenance Inspector for an initial 6 month contract with potential to extend on a salary of £41,050 to £44,955/annum (DOE). This role will be hybrid working.


    You will assist in the provision of a comprehensive planned and reactive maintenance programme ensuring compliance with statutory and contractual obligations in relation to properties in non-housing. The work may also involve preparing specifications and tender documentation for minor work projects.


    Responsibilities:


    - Deliver comprehensive maintenance service, keeping properties safe, secure, legal and available for use within allocated maintenance budgets.

    - Resolve problems with sound technical judgement in a complex environment with minimal guidance and within current policies and legislation.

    - Be the initial point of contact for customer enquiries and maintenance requests.

    - Carry out regular property audits, condition surveys and other building assessments to gather property related asset management information.

    - Update project programme and cost information as part of the organisations programme monitoring processes.

    - Take appropriate decisions to progress projects, referring to managers where appropriate, to ensure contractors deliver to specification, price and quality. Carry out project reviews and report on contractor performance.

    - Plan, organise and prioritise own work to achieve maximum contribution to management plans and targets. Co-ordinate work with that of other staff in the team.

    - Prepare specifications and tender documentation for minor works, instruct and supervise contractors working in occupied buildings and liaise directly with occupants in the planning of the works.

    - Ensure all activities required to comply with building and property related legislation are effectively carried out.

    - Carry out risk assessments for construction operations, applying CDM Regulations where required.

    - Demonstrate pro-active involvement and awareness of legislation issues.

    - Ensure all records associated with contract documents, test certificates, risk assessments and legislation compliance records are properly managed and accessible when required.

    - Write reports giving recommendations and advice as required

    - Identify gaps in service provision and be pro-active with customers to determine service level requirements, encouraging feedback and responding positively with recommendations to managers.

    - Contribute to the development of term maintenance contracts in accordance with Standing Orders and Procurement Policies and Procedures.


    Essential Skills:


    - ONC/HNC in a building/mechanical or electrical related discipline or appropriate membership of a qualifying body or time served tradesman with considerable supervisory experience.

    - Knowledge of appropriate current, electrical and gas regulations.

    - Good communication skills

    - Experience of the construction / maintenance process, at technical or supervisory level.

    - Computer literate, being able to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and work ordering related systems.



    Desirable Skills:


    - Ability to work independently or as part of a team

    - Knowledge of appropriate current legislation for:

    i. Health & Safety at Work Act

    ii. Health & Hygiene (Scotland) Act

    iii. COSHH

    iv. Asbestos regulations

    v. CDM Regulations

    vi. Building Regulations

    vii. Water Bylaws

    viii. Other appropriate legislation
