How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    The Data Engineer/ BI Engineer plays a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining data solutions that support strategic decision-making across the organisation. Working closely with stakeholders, the successful candidate will transform complex data into meaningful insights through modern Business Intelligence technologies, whilst ensuring robust, scalable, and secure data platforms.

    This role combines expertise in data engineering, business intelligence, and cloud technologies, with a particular focus on Power BI, Snowflake, Azure, and DevOps practices. The candidate will contribute to the development of data products, reporting solutions, and data pipelines that enable evidence-based decision-making and drive organisational performance.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    * Design, develop, and maintain Business Intelligence solutions, reports, dashboards, and data products using Microsoft Power BI.

    * Build and manage scalable data pipelines and data integration processes using Azure and Snowflake technologies.

    * Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate business needs into effective reporting and analytical solutions.

    * Support the adoption of data products and promote data literacy across the organisation.

    * Implement and maintain DevOps practices to support continuous integration, deployment, and monitoring of data and BI solutions.

    * Ensure data quality, governance, security, and compliance standards are maintained across all data platforms.

    * Optimise and enhance existing reporting and analytics solutions to improve performance, usability, and reliability.

    * Work closely with technical and business teams to identify opportunities for data-driven improvements and innovation.

    * Provide technical guidance and support to users and stakeholders regarding reporting and analytical capabilities.

    * Contribute to the ongoing development of the organisation's cloud-based data architecture and BI strategy.

    * Maintain technical documentation and ensure solutions follow industry best practices.

    * Stay current with emerging technologies, trends, and best practices within Business Intelligence, Data Engineering, Azure, and DevOps.

    Essential Criteria

    * Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

    * Proven experience in a Data Engineer, Business Intelligence Developer, or similar role.

    * Strong experience developing reports, dashboards, and analytical solutions using Microsoft Power BI.

    * Experience working with Snowflake as a cloud data platform.

    * Experience with Microsoft Azure data services and cloud-based data architectures.

    * Knowledge and practical application of DevOps principles, tools, and methodologies.

    * Strong SQL development and data modelling skills.

    * Experience designing, developing, and maintaining ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines.

    * Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex requirements into effective technical solutions.

    * Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

    * Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.

    Desirable Criteria

    * Experience working within Higher Education, Further Education, or the wider education sector.

    * Experience administering or developing solutions using COGNOS.

    * Advanced knowledge of Power BI, including DAX, data modelling, and performance optimisation.

    * Experience implementing CI/CD processes for data and analytics solutions.

    * Knowledge of data governance, data security, and regulatory compliance requirements.

    * Relevant Microsoft, Snowflake, or cloud platform certifications
