How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Our client is a leading UK logistics and container transport operator with a significant national presence and a reputation for delivering high-quality services to a diverse customer base. Due to continued growth and investment, they are seeking an experienced General Manager to take ownership of a busy operational site in Purfleet.

    This is a key leadership position for an ambitious logistics professional who thrives in a fast-paced transport environment and enjoys driving operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and commercial performance.

    The Opportunity

    As General Manager, you will have full responsibility for the day-to-day performance of a large-scale transport operation. Leading multiple teams across transport, fleet, planning and operational functions, you will ensure that service levels remain exceptional while maintaining a strong focus on safety, compliance and profitability.

    You will work closely with senior leadership to deliver operational improvements, develop strategic initiatives and support the continued growth of the business.

    Key Responsibilities

    Provide overall leadership and direction across the depot operation.
    Drive operational efficiency and service performance across transport and logistics activities.
    Lead, mentor and develop management and operational teams.
    Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers and stakeholders.
    Monitor operational KPIs and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
    Ensure full compliance with all transport, health & safety and industry regulations.
    Manage budgets, control costs and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
    Support business growth through effective planning, resource management and operational strategy.
    Foster a positive culture focused on accountability, teamwork and customer service excellence.

    About You

    We are keen to speak with experienced operational leaders from transport, logistics, container haulage or related sectors who can demonstrate:

    A successful track record of managing large transport or logistics operations.
    Strong commercial awareness and experience managing operational budgets.
    Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.
    Extensive knowledge of transport legislation, compliance and health & safety requirements.
    Experience managing customer relationships within a service-driven environment.
    A proactive approach to problem-solving and operational improvement.
    Strong organisational and communication skills.
    Experience within container logistics, port-centric operations or large fleet environments would be highly advantageous.
