How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Senior Mechanical Engineer

    Greater Bristol Area, UK

3 days per week onsite | Hybrid/Flexible Working Options

Shape the Future of Advanced Technology Manufacturing

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a leading global engineering organisation developing complex, high-performance industrial equipment used in advanced manufacturing environments worldwide.

Based in the greater Bristol area, this role offers the chance to take technical leadership of mechanical design activities, supporting the delivery of innovative systems and subsystems that demand precision, reliability, and strong engineering governance.

You will play a key role in shaping mechanical design quality, driving engineering best practice, and supporting the development of both products and people within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.

    The Role

Reporting to the Associate Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will lead mechanical engineering activities across projects, providing technical direction and ensuring high-quality delivery from concept through to production.

You will act as a key technical authority within the team, helping to guide design decisions, resolve engineering challenges, and ensure consistency, compliance, and performance across deliverables.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Lead and deliver mechanical engineering expertise across projects, including subsystems and technology developments

    * Provide technical direction and guidance across mechanical engineering activities

    * Ensure mechanical designs meet stakeholder, product, and regulatory requirements by design

    * Champion best-practice mechanical engineering principles across all project activities

    * Support creation and distribution of engineering work packages across cross-functional teams

    * Drive delivery of projects through key milestones through to completion and production readiness

    * Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, directives, and applicable industry standards

    * Act as a role model for junior engineers, supporting mentoring, coaching, and technical development

    * Promote engineering consistency, quality, and continuous improvement across the function

    About You

You will be an experienced mechanical engineer with strong technical expertise, a structured approach to design, and a natural ability to guide and support others within a team environment.

We encourage applications from candidates who may not meet every requirement but demonstrate strong engineering capability and a commitment to continued development.

    Essential Skills & Experience

    * Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (BEng minimum) or equivalent (Master’s desirable)

    * Strong understanding and practical application of Design for X principles (manufacture, cost, assembly, maintainability, etc.)

    * Significant experience in mechanical design within a relevant engineering or manufacturing environment

    * Strong 2D and 3D CAD capability

    * Ability to interpret complex requirements and translate them into robust engineering solutions

    * Strong focus on delivering to project milestones and timescales

    * Thorough knowledge of mechanical engineering design best practice

    * Commitment to ongoing professional development and technical growth

    Desirable Experience

    * Working towards professional registration with a recognised engineering institution

    * Experience in regulated or compliance-driven engineering environments

    * Experience in high-complexity, precision engineering or advanced industrial systems
