Science Cover Supervisor – Barnsley

Salary: £100–£120 per day (dependent on experience)

PK Education are working with a secondary school in Barnsley who are looking to appoint a Science Cover Supervisor from September 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a Science background who enjoys working with young people and is considering a future career in education. The role is based predominantly within the Science department, providing consistency for both staff and students.

Unlike a traditional Cover Supervisor position where you may move between multiple subjects, this role will primarily involve delivering Science lessons across KS3 and KS4 using work set by the department.

The school has a well-established Science faculty with strong leadership, excellent resources, and clear systems in place. You will become a valued member of the department, supporting learning and maintaining continuity when teachers are absent.

The Role

Delivering pre-planned Science lessons across KS3 and KS4
Supporting students with classwork and practical activities where appropriate
Managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a positive learning environment
Working closely with the Science department and wider school staff

What We’re Looking For

A degree or strong academic background in a Science-related subject
Experience working with young people is desirable
Confident leading classes and managing behaviour
Strong communication and organisational skills
An interest in teaching or working within education

This role would suit Science graduates, experienced Cover Supervisors, aspiring teachers, or candidates looking to gain valuable classroom experience before teacher training.
