How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

This position is an hourly paid role with variable hours

As part of an ongoing drive to ensure apprentices receive outstanding Functional Skills maths and English provision, Solihull College & University Centre is seeking an hourly paid lecturer to deliver Functional Skills English and/or maths to apprentices across a range of vocational areas and employer settings.

The successful candidate will support apprentices to achieve Functional Skills qualifications at Level 1 and Level 2 within agreed timescales, through flexible, responsive and highly individualised delivery models.

We are looking for someone who will work alongside the Maths and English and Apprenticeships Teams in:

    • Providing innovative, engaging and supportive teaching, learning and assessment.

    • Managing a rolling caseload of apprentices, supporting learners with varying starting points, confidence levels and support needs.

    • Delivering a combination of fast-track courses, small group sessions and 1:1 support.

    • Supporting apprentices to make rapid and sustained progress towards achievement in Functional Skills maths and/or English.

    • Maintaining accurate records of progress, attendance and achievement, ensuring learners remain on track to meet agreed targets and deadlines.

    • Communicating effectively and regularly with apprentices, assessors and employers regarding learner engagement, progress and support needs.

Delivery will be a combination of face-to-face teaching across the College’s Blossomfield, Woodlands and Stratford campuses, along with some delivery taking place at employer/partnership premises or at outreach venues. The role will also involve some remote delivery.

You will be joining a supportive and collaborative team in a college environment and culture that is caring, respectful and inspiring. This vacancy is an excellent opportunity to become part of a forward-thinking and innovative team.

You must a minimum level 3 qualification in English and minimum level 2 in maths, together with an appropriate subject or professional qualification relevant to the area you wish to deliver and ideally possess a Level 5 teaching qualification or be prepared to work towards an appropriate teaching qualification.

Experience of delivering Functional Skills within Further Education, apprenticeships or secondary education would be advantageous. The role would suit teachers with experience of supporting learners from Entry Level through to Level 2, particularly those who are confident adapting delivery to meet a wide range of learner needs and abilities.

The College is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse community and welcomes applications from individuals across all sectors. We aim to reflect the diversity of our student population in our staff profile, ensuring that we provide the best possible experience and environment for our learners. Our goal is to continue to develop a vibrant, supportive and inclusive workplace where all staff can thrive.

For the next stage in the process, you will be required to attend the College’s premises, unless exceptional circumstances apply.

Solihull College & University Centre is committed to ensuring a safe environment for all students and expects all staff to engage fully with this commitment
