How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Are you ready to shape the future of construction education across academic and higher-level pathways at Solihull College & University Centre? We’re seeking an ambitious Deputy Head of School to support the Director in driving high-quality provision across T Levels, Higher Education, and apprenticeships, ensuring outstanding standards in teaching, learning, and assessment. This role will be based at our Blossomfield Campus.

In this role, you will play a pivotal part in leading and developing a team delivering academic and technical qualifications, with a strong focus on progression from Level 2/3 into HE and higher-level skills. You will support curriculum planning and quality improvement across T Levels, apprenticeships, and degree-level provision, ensuring alignment with employer expectations and sector skills priorities.

You will lead on quality assurance, student outcomes, and curriculum innovation, ensuring that teaching approaches meet the demands of advanced technical and professional study. A key part of the role will involve strengthening employer and university partnerships to support progression routes, industry relevance, and the successful delivery of apprenticeship standards and higher technical qualifications.

You will also contribute to strategic planning, financial performance, and recruitment, ensuring the curriculum is responsive to local, regional, and national skills needs—particularly in developing a pipeline of learners progressing into higher-level construction roles.

    What we’re looking for:
We are seeking a dynamic leader with experience in further and/or higher education, ideally with exposure to T Levels, HE delivery, and apprenticeships within construction and the built environment.

    You will have:

    * A relevant degree or significant industry experience

    * A recognised teaching qualification

    * Proven experience in improving teaching, learning, and assessment, particularly within academic and higher-level provision

    * Experience of leading teams delivering Level 3+, HE, or apprenticeship programmes

    * Strong understanding of progression pathways, quality assurance, and curriculum design

    * A track record of successful employer engagement linked to apprenticeships and higher skills delivery

You will be an effective communicator, able to motivate teams and drive high performance, with a clear commitment to safeguarding and student success.

Why join us? At Solihull College & University Centre, we’re passionate about delivering outstanding education and training to empower individuals and meet the demands of local industry. This is your chance to play a pivotal role in driving regional growth and creating a skilled workforce of tomorrow.

The College is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse community and welcomes applications from individuals across all sectors. We aim to reflect the diversity of our student population in our staff profile, ensuring that we provide the best possible experience and environment for our learners. Our goal is to continue to develop a vibrant, supportive, and inclusive workplace where all staff can thrive.

Please note if you are selected for the next stage in the process, you will be required to attend the College’s premises, unless exceptional circumstances apply.

Solihull College & University Centre is committed to ensuring a safe environment for all students and expects all staff to engage fully with this commitment.
