How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Senior Social Worker – Children in Need Team

    Islington Council

£39.04 per hour | Locum Contract | Hybrid Working

Excellent pay rate of £39.04 per hour

Dedicated Children in Need Team – separate from Child Protection

    Manageable caseloads with supportive management

    Hybrid working available

Opportunity to work within a progressive London local authority

Are you an experienced Children’s Social Worker looking for a supportive frontline role where you can focus on meaningful intervention and long-term family support, without the demands of Child Protection?

We are currently working with Islington Council to recruit an experienced Senior Social Worker into their Children in Need Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a stable and well-regarded service focused on delivering high-quality interventions to children and families requiring support under Section 17.

Importantly, this team is separate from Child Protection, allowing Social Workers to focus on relationship-based practice, early intervention, and improving long-term outcomes for families without holding CP conference or CP investigation responsibilities.

    The Role

As a Senior Social Worker within the Children in Need Team, you will:

Manage a caseload of children and families supported under Section 17

Complete Child & Family Assessments and develop outcome-focused CIN plans

Undertake direct work with children and families to promote positive change

Build strong relationships with families through strengths-based interventions

Work collaboratively with schools, health professionals, housing, and partner agencies

Support children at risk of escalation and prevent progression into Child Protection where safe to do so

Prepare clear and analytical assessments, reports, and case recordings

Support less experienced colleagues through mentoring and shared practice learning

Participate in CIN reviews and multi-agency planning meetings

    What We’re Looking For

Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England

Previous experience within Children in Need, Assessment, or Safeguarding teams

Strong assessment, planning, and direct work skills

Confident working within statutory children’s services

Ability to manage complex family situations and multi-agency working effectively

Minimum 3 years’ post-qualified experience preferred

    Why Join Islington?

Competitive rate of £39.04 per hour

    Stable and supportive management structure

Dedicated CIN service separate from Child Protection

    Strong emphasis on relationship-based practice

    Hybrid working flexibility

    Excellent transport links across London

Opportunity to join a highly regarded local authority with strong practice standards
