The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and the SEN department to provide targeted academic and emotional support to students. The role may involve supporting pupils with additional learning needs, assisting within subject departments, and helping students build confidence, independence, and resilience.
Key Responsibilities
Support students during lessons across a range of subjects at KS3 and KS4.
Deliver focused 1:1 and small-group interventions to raise attainment and improve progress.
Assist teachers with lesson preparation, classroom organisation, and learning resources.
Encourage excellent behaviour, positive attitudes to learning, and student engagement.
Provide tailored support for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, and SEMH needs where appropriate.
Work collaboratively with teachers and pastoral teams to monitor student progress and wellbeing.
Support the school's strong safeguarding, behaviour, and inclusion policies.
Contribute positively to the wider life of the school, including enrichment activities, trips, and events.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Previous experience working with secondary-aged students in a school or educational setting.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships quickly.
Excellent behaviour management skills and high expectations of students.
A calm, patient, and proactive approach to supporting learning.
Good literacy and numeracy skills.
A genuine interest in education and supporting young people to succeed.
A relevant qualification such as CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ, degree, or equivalent is desirable.
