How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

We’re seeking a technically skilled and results-driven Area Technical Manager to join the team at our Scunthorpe Rod Mill. In this vital role, you will have full responsibility for all technical activities within your designated area of the plant. You’ll work closely with Manufacturing Managers and Lead Engineers to improve and validate the hot steel rolling process, particularly during a time of significant innovation and development.

As part of our commitment to delivering high-quality steel products to a competitive market, you will apply your technical expertise and analytical thinking to drive operational efficiency and enhance product quality. Through careful trend monitoring, data analysis and collaboration across functions, you’ll contribute directly to customer satisfaction and help ensure compliance with demanding quality standards.

Operating under the frameworks of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 Quality Management Systems, you will partner closely with colleagues across Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Commercial, Planning and the broader Technical team. You will also lead efforts in product development, quality improvement and problem-solving, playing a key role in continuous improvement initiatives across the mill.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Lead and manage all technical activity in your area of the Rod Mill.

    * Drive process and product improvements to enhance quality, efficiency and customer value.

    * Analyse operational and quality data to identify trends, diagnose issues and inform decisions.

    * Support the resolution of quality concerns through root cause analysis and implementation of corrective/preventive actions.

    * Design and execute product and process trials aligned with continuous improvement goals.

    * Collaborate across functions to ensure compliance with customer requirements and internal quality standards.

What We Need to Know About You

Ideally, you will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a science or materials-based subject, although equivalent and exceptional industry experience will also be considered.

    You’ll bring

    * A proven track record of product or process development in a quality-focused environment.

    * Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the business.

    * Confidence in using data to support decisions, drive improvements, and communicate findings clearly.

    * A proactive mindset, capable of challenging the status quo and leading positive change within the organisation.

    Desirable experience includes

    * Familiarity with continuous improvement techniques, including Six Sigma.

    * Knowledge of metallurgical testing methods and relevant industry standards.

    * Awareness or practical experience with IATF 16949 principles and core quality tools, such as PPAP, APQP, FMEA, and SPC.
