Reagent Manufacturing Scientist – IVD / Diagnostics
Are you looking to join an innovative, growing Scottish SME working at the forefront of diagnostic development?
FlexMedical Solutions provide contract design, development and manufacturing services to global medical device OEMs, with a strong focus on point-of-care in-vitro diagnostics (IVD) from their site in Livingston.
The business continues to expand and is now seeking a Reagent Manufacturing Scientist to join the team, playing a key role in the production and development of reagents used in commercially deployed diagnostic products.
As a scientifically qualified professional, you will bring hands-on laboratory and manufacturing experience within a regulated environment. You will have a strong understanding of reagent formulation, biochemical processes and quality standards, and be comfortable operating across both R&D and manufacturing activities. This is a role for someone who combines technical depth with a practical, detail-oriented mindset, and who can contribute to the delivery of high-quality, scalable diagnostic solutions.
You will also take responsibility for supervising technicians and ensuring processes are executed to the highest standards.
Due to the nature of the business, this role will suit an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and is motivated by the opportunity to contribute to meaningful product development within a collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting into the Manufacturing team, you will:
- Manufacture complex biochemical reagents for use in commercial IVD products from first principles
- Perform incoming raw material testing and in-process biochemical testing
- Conduct reagent and biosensor release testing, including calibration and QC
- Utilise laboratory equipment such as HPLC, FPLC, ELISA plate readers and particle analysis systems
- Develop and maintain material specifications, SOPs and work instructions
- Complete and review batch records in line with GMP standards
- Support technical investigations and root cause analysis activities
- Supervise and support Manufacturing Technicians
- Generate, interpret and report experimental and production data
Experience & Background
You will likely have:
- A degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related discipline
- Experience working within a regulated environment (IVD, medical devices or pharma)
- Hands-on experience in reagent formulation and biochemical processes
- Familiarity with techniques such as bioconjugation and analytical testing
- Experience operating laboratory equipment (e.g. HPLC, FPLC, plate readers)
- Strong understanding of GMP and quality-driven environments
- Experience writing technical documentation and maintaining accurate records
- A detail-oriented approach with the ability to perform repetitive tasks to a high standard
Supervisory experience would be advantageous, alongside exposure to transferring processes from R&D into manufacturing.
The environment
You’ll be joining a scaling, fast-moving CDMO working with both UK and international clients.
Expect:
- A dynamic, evolving environment
- High expectations around quality and compliance
- A culture where initiative and ownership are recognised
- Genuine opportunity for development and progression
Flexibility is important—shift working may be required depending on production demands.
The Opportunity
FlexMedical Solutions offer the opportunity to work on a diverse range of diagnostic programmes within a collaborative, technically driven environment. You will gain exposure to both development and manufacturing activities, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to bring products from concept through to commercialisation.
This is a role where initiative is encouraged, and where your contribution will have a direct impact on the delivery of innovative diagnostic solutions.
