How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    At Jackson, we are dynamic, forward-thinking and delivery focused, with an inclusive and supportive company culture. Our clients value our proactive approach, technical expertise, integrity and the high standards we bring to every project, giving our teams the opportunity to work on a diverse and exciting portfolio of schemes.

    We are committed to helping our people succeed both professionally and personally. To support this, we promote a healthy, productive and flexible working environment that values wellbeing and work–life balance.

    Due to continued success, we are now looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join our Northern Region team. The role will be based on a hybrid working arrangement from our Tamworth office, with an initial assignment on a scheme in Stoke. As the position will involve a mix of office, site and home working, we are ideally seeking a candidate who is within easy commuting distance of both Tamworth and Stoke.

    Main Duties of the Quantity Surveyor:

    * Ensure compliance with quality, safety and environmental objectives

    * Preparing plans, contracts, budgets, bills of quantities and other documentation

    * On-site measurement and measurement of drawings as required

    * Identifying potential risks and evaluate options for control

    * On-going cost analysis of maintenance and repair work

    * Feasibility studies of client’s requests

    * Preparation of estimates

    * Analysing sub-contractors’ quotations

    * Preparation and agreeing variation accounts

    * Preparation and agreeing of interim valuations and final accounts

    * Prepare and issue certification for contract payments to sub-contractors

    * Providing evidence for resolution of disputes

    * Ensure all work complies with quality, safety and environmental policies and the requirements of the company procedure

    Are you the person we are looking for?

    We’re after an ambitious individual with great communication skills, who is confident with a flexible approach.

    The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate innovative approaches to problem solving and the ability to negotiate across the various levels of any construction environment as well as handle the financial and mathematical demands of the role by possessing impressive numeracy and IT skills.

    The ideal candidate must have experience working on heavy civil projects and working with the NEC form of contract.

    Due to this being a regional based role, the successful candidate must be ok to travel and have a full UK driving license.

    Excellent benefits package and personal development opportunities:

    We don’t just offer a great place to work with a supportive, family atmosphere. We also offer:

    * Life assurance cover (4x annual salary)

    * Company car or car allowance

    * Company pension scheme (we match up to 8%)

    * The ‘Great Escape’ – leaving 2 hours early EVERY Friday!

    * 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (with an option of buying more holiday)

    * Extensive training programmes

    * Cycle-to-work scheme

    * Employee Assistance Programme

    * Employee benefits platform

    * Free on-site parking

    * Company social calendar

    * Regular fun days and a broad range of charity events

    * A supportive business that genuinely wants to help you progress in your career.

    We are committed to providing equal opportunities for all and welcome applications from everyone, regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, or marital and civil partnership status. We are proud of our inclusive recruitment approach and will make every effort to support applicants who require adjustments during the recruitment process.
