Salary: £50,000 – £60,000
Due to continued growth and expansion, an established engineering organisation is looking to recruit a high-calibre Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team at their Barnsley office.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong background in large turnkey machinery build, mechanical handling equipment, or large rotating machinery projects.
The Role
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take ownership of complex engineering projects, leading the design process from concept through to installation and commissioning.
You will play a key role in producing conceptual designs supported by calculations and analysis, while also providing technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams. This role requires the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring delivery to tight deadlines.
You will also be responsible for mentoring and guiding design engineers, ensuring high-quality output across all stages of the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
* Liaise with customers, suppliers, internal teams, and other engineering disciplines throughout projects
* Technically lead complex engineering projects from concept through to delivery and installation
* Design and develop bespoke mechanical systems using Inventor and/or SolidWorks
* Provide technical consultation to customers to define project requirements and specifications
* Manage and coordinate multiple projects from design through to customer delivery
* Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required quality standards
* Support, guide, and review the work of other design engineers
Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in large, heavy engineering projects such as machinery build, mechanical handling, or rotating equipment
* Degree or HNC/HND qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
* Strong experience with 2D and 3D CAD (ideally Inventor and/or SolidWorks)
* Ability to produce and validate engineering calculations
* Knowledge of MathCAD and/or FEA would be advantageous
* Experience delivering complex, multidisciplinary projects from concept to commissioning
* Previous experience managing or mentoring design teams
* Strong communication skills with the ability to engage at all levels internally and externally
