How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Location: Barnsley
    Salary: £40,000 – £50,000

Due to continued growth and expansion, an established engineering organisation is seeking a high-calibre Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team at their Barnsley office.

This role would suit an experienced engineer with a background in large turnkey machinery build, mechanical handling equipment, or large rotating machinery projects.

    The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team responsible for delivering conceptual and detailed designs for complex engineering projects.

You will be involved throughout the full project lifecycle, from initial concept design and calculations through to manufacturing, factory testing, installation, and site commissioning.

Projects span multiple engineering sectors, so a broad technical understanding and the ability to adapt to different applications is essential. Strong time management skills and the ability to work to deadlines are also key.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, suppliers, management, and shop floor teams throughout projects

    * Contribute to the design and development of complex engineering solutions from concept through to installation

    * Design and modify bespoke mechanical systems using Inventor and/or SolidWorks

    * Manage multiple projects simultaneously from design stage to final delivery

    * Ensure designs meet project timelines, budgets, and required quality standards

    Skills & Experience

    * Experience working on large, heavy engineering projects such as machinery build, mechanical handling, or rotating equipment

    * HNC, HND or Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)

    * Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD (ideally Inventor and/or SolidWorks)

    * Ability to produce and validate engineering calculations

    * Knowledge of MathCAD and/or FEA would be advantageous

    * Experience working on complex, multidisciplinary projects from concept to commissioning

    * Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders
