Role Overview
An experienced Mechanical / HVAC Supervisor is required to lead the delivery of reactive maintenance and remedial works across Mechanical Services, HVAC systems and associated plant at a prestigious large‑scale venue. The role involves direct supervision of engineering staff, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, high‑quality workmanship and effective service delivery, including support during major event days.
Key Responsibilities
* Line manage 3 direct reports, overseeing all HR and operational activities to promote a safe, proactive and high‑performing culture
* Ensure all mechanical and HVAC works are delivered in accordance with contractual requirements and engineering best practice
* Maintain strict compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act (HASAWA) and ensure team adherence at all times
* Ensure onsite Quality Assurance procedures are followed, with accurate records and documentation maintained for all mechanical/HVAC plant
* Demonstrate a strong understanding of BMS and control systems associated with mechanical plant to support fault diagnosis and correct system setup
* Supervise all aspects of mechanical and HVAC works, including:
* Safety briefings
* Absence management
* Performance reviews
* Annual leave approvals
* Timesheet approvals
* Plan and coordinate training and development activities to support team capability and progression
* Ensure high‑quality completion of repairs to HVAC plant and associated systems
* Oversee and carry out installation, alteration and repair of pipework systems, ensuring minimal downtime and disruption
* Undertake pump repairs within the workshop, including replacement of mechanical seals and addressing common causes of pump failure
* Respond promptly and effectively to helpdesk‑generated reactive maintenance issues relating to:
* Heating and ventilation systems
* Pumps
* Water tanks
* Valves
* Pipework and associated mechanical systems
* Provide assistance to other trades where required to support overall service delivery
* Ensure all works are correctly logged across relevant systems, including:
* CAFM systems
* Smartsheets
* Subcontractor record portals
* Support effective supply chain management, including planning and coordination of quoted and project works
* Produce and submit detailed shift reports to management
* Support Event Day operations, ensuring mechanical and HVAC systems perform reliably during live events
Person Specification
The successful candidate will be an experienced Mechanical Contracts Supervisor with a proactive, hands‑on approach to fault‑finding and team leadership. You will be confident communicating with clients and stakeholders, clearly explaining required actions to resolve technical issues.
Required Qualifications & Experience
NVQ or City & Guilds Level 3 in:
Refrigeration
Air Conditioninging (6187 or equivalent)
Mechanical Engineering
Strong experience in both mechanical and electrical aspects of building services repair and installation
Exceptional knowledge of mechanical systems and heating and ventilation systems
Sound understanding of electrical principles, including:
Safe isolation
Controls
Basic electrical fault‑finding
Proven experience supervising engineering teams in a facilities or critical‑environment setting
Desirable
City & Guilds 2079 F‑Gas Regulations
Experience using Trend BMS
Authorised Person – Mechanical (AP)
