How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    The Role

    Are you a commercially minded Quantity Surveyor looking to make a significant impact within a fast-paced sub-contracting environment?
    Our client are a leading specialist sub-contractor based in Motherwell, known for delivering high-quality packages on some of Scotland's most prestigious construction projects. Due to a strong pipeline of work and sustained growth, they are looking for a driven, degree-qualified QS to join our commercial team.

    This role offers the best of both worlds: the agility and influence of a sub-contractor, with the professional standards and project scale typically found in Tier 1 environments.

    Key Responsibilities

    Commercial Management: Take full commercial ownership of multiple projects from inception to final account.
    Contract Administration: Manage NEC/JCT/D&B contracts, ensuring all notices and variations are submitted accurately and on time.
    Sub-contractor Management: Oversee the procurement and payment cycles for smaller trades and material suppliers.
    Reporting: Prepare monthly CVRs (Cost Value Reconciliations) and provide accurate cash flow forecasts to the Commercial Manager.
    Collaboration: Work closely with the Site Management teams to identify commercial risks and opportunities on-site.
    The Ideal Candidate

    We are looking for a professional who understands the pace of sub-contracting but possesses the rigour of a large-scale contractor background.

    Education: Must hold a degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
    Experience: A minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience (PQE) is essential.
    Background: Proven track record working with either a large main contractor or a large-scale specialist sub-contractor.
    Skills: Strong negotiation skills, a sharp eye for detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
    Location: Ideally based within commuting distance of Motherwell.
