How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Commercial Manager
    Water Sector
    Location: M5 Corridor
    Up £100,000 plus company package

    About the Company
    We are a growing and dynamic civil engineering contractor delivering high-quality infrastructure solutions across the UK. With a strong presence in the water sector, we partner with major utilities and frameworks to deliver essential projects that support communities and the environment.

    Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to lead the commercial function across our water sector projects.

    The Role
    As Commercial Manager, you will take full responsibility for the commercial performance of water sector schemes, ensuring projects are delivered profitably while maintaining strong client relationships and contractual compliance.

    You will play a key role in shaping commercial strategy, managing risk, and supporting operational teams to achieve successful project outcomes.

    Key Responsibilities
    Lead the commercial management of water sector projects from pre-contract through to final account
    Oversee cost control, forecasting, and financial reporting across multiple schemes
    Manage subcontract procurement, negotiation, and administration
    Ensure compliance with contract conditions (NEC experience preferred)
    Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities
    Lead on valuations, variations, and claims management
    Provide commercial guidance and support to project teams
    Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders
    Mentor and develop junior commercial staff

    About You
    Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering
    Strong background in the water sector (e.g., AMP frameworks, utilities)
    Excellent knowledge of NEC contracts
    Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and commercial teams
    Strong negotiation, communication, and leadership skills
    Commercially astute with a proactive approach to problem-solving
    Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or similar
