How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Client Details

    Michael Page is partnering with a leading FMCG manufacturing business to recruit an Engineering Manager for its Gateshead facility. The organisation employs over 5,000 colleagues across multiple manufacturing sites and supplies products to global markets.

    Description

    Reporting directly to the Operations Director, the Engineering Manager will be a key member of the site leadership team, with full responsibility for the engineering function. You will ensure site assets are maintained to minimise downtime, maximise efficiency, and support safe, high‑quality production in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    Lead, manage, and develop the site engineering team across maintenance, site services, projects, and engineering in a 24/6 manufacturing operation
    Drive a proactive maintenance strategy to improve asset reliability and overall equipment effectiveness
    Identify and deliver opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement across all site assets
    Lead reliability initiatives, including root cause analysis (RCA) and implementation of corrective actions to achieve key engineering and maintenance KPIs
    Build team capability through targeted training, development plans, and closing skills gaps
    Work collaboratively with Operations, Quality, and other site functions to deliver site objectives
    Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Quality standards at all times

    Profile

    The successful Engineering Manager will possess a range of the following:

    Proven experience within a food manufacturing environment
    Extensive people management experience in a senior Engineering leadership role
    Strong technical knowledge of engineering principles and best‑practice maintenance methodologies
    Sound understanding of Continuous Improvement and reliability‑focused maintenance approaches
    Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
    Highly organised, analytical, and confident in problem‑solving

    Job Offer

    Salary circa £65,000
    10% performance‑related bonus
