How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    The Opportunity

    We are working with a well-established and growing business within the building materials sector, looking to appoint an experienced Area Sales Manager to drive growth across Central Scotland.

    This is a field-based role offering a high level of autonomy, working alongside a supportive internal account team to develop both new and existing business. It’s an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven individual with strong industry knowledge and established relationships to make a real impact.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Identify and secure new business opportunities across construction, housebuilding, and trade sectors

    * Develop and manage a portfolio of key accounts, building long-term, profitable relationships

    * Promote a broad range of building materials, working closely with internal teams and suppliers

    * Prepare and present quotations, proposals, and tenders in line with commercial targets

    * Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer demand to identify growth opportunities

    * Collaborate with operations, logistics, and procurement to ensure excellent service delivery

    * Represent the business at customer and supplier events to strengthen relationships

    * Achieve and exceed sales, margin, and growth targets

    * Maintain accurate pipeline reporting and provide regular forecasts to management

    Role Overview

    * Deliver a high level of service across an established customer base

    * Build and grow relationships with both new and existing clients

    * Maximise customer spend through proactive account development

    * Regularly visit customers to strengthen partnerships and drive revenue

    * Work closely with suppliers to identify opportunities and improve profitability

    * Stay up to date with product knowledge through ongoing training

    * Support wider business functions where required

    About You

    * Proven track record in external sales or business development within building materials / merchanting

    * Strong knowledge of timber and construction products

    * Established network within construction, contractor, or housebuilding sectors in Central Scotland

    * Highly driven with a proactive approach to winning new business

    * Commercially astute with a strong understanding of margins and pricing

    * Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills

    * Self-motivated, organised, and comfortable working independently

    * Positive, ambitious, and target-driven mindset

    * Full UK driving licence
