How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and highly reputable Main Contractor with a strong presence across the South East. With an annual turnover of approximately £30 million and delivery of around 12 projects per year, the business has built a strong reputation for quality, reliability, and repeat client relationships.

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their Haywards Heath-based team.

Projects typically range in value between £4m - £7m and span a diverse mix of sectors including:

    Education

    Commercial & Industrial

    Residential

    Community & Leisure

    Groundworks & Infrastructure

This level of turnover and project volume provides genuine variety, autonomy, and long-term career stability within a structured but agile contractor environment.

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take full commercial responsibility for projects from pre-construction through to final account. You will be a key figure in ensuring financial performance, managing risk, and driving commercial success across multiple schemes.

    Key responsibilities include:

Full commercial management of projects (£4m-£7m)

    Cost planning and budget control

    Procurement and subcontractor management

    Contract administration (JCT experience essential)

    Valuations, variations, and final accounts

    Risk management and cost reporting

Supporting and mentoring junior commercial staff

Liaising with clients, consultants, and internal teams

This is a role offering genuine ownership and the opportunity to influence commercial strategy across projects.

To be considered, you will ideally have:

Around 10 years' experience within a main contractor environment

A career path that demonstrates progression from Assistant / Intermediate QS to Senior QS

Strong knowledge of JCT forms of contract

Experience across multiple sectors (education, commercial, residential, groundworks etc. desirable)

Excellent commercial acumen and negotiation skills

The ability to manage projects independently

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

This role would suit a commercially driven Senior QS who has worked their way up through the ranks and is confident taking full ownership of schemes within a £30m turnover business.

    What's on Offer

    £70,000 - £80,000 salary (DOE)

    Car allowance / company vehicle

    Pension contribution

    Generous holiday allowance

    Stable, long-term pipeline of work

Genuine career progression within a growing and secure contractor
