Head of Technical – Food Manufacturing

Base Salary to £75,000.00
Alexander Steele is working in partnership with one of Scotland’s best-known FMCG brands to find an experienced Head of Technical or Senior level Technical Manager to join their leadership team. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of the site’s technical and quality agenda within a business that’s proud of its heritage, reputation, and continued growth.
The Role
Reporting into the Site General Manager, you’ll lead the site’s technical and quality function, ensuring that products meet the highest standards of food safety, legality, and quality. You’ll be the key link between production, NPD, and customers, making sure that standards are not only met but continually improved.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the site’s technical and QA teams, promoting a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
- Maintain and develop food safety systems in line with BRCGS, retailer, and customer standards.
- Manage site audits, customer visits, and supplier approvals.
- Support NPD and operations teams through trials, launches, and ongoing compliance.
- Act as the main technical contact for key retail and branded customers.
- Drive improvements in product quality, safety, and consistency.
The Candidate
We’re looking for someone with solid experience in a technical or quality leadership role within the food manufacturing sector. You’ll be confident in dealing with customers and auditors, and comfortable leading a capable on-site team.
- A background in food manufacturing – ideally within a high-volume or branded FMCG environment.
- Strong knowledge of BRCGS, HACCP, and retailer codes of practice.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and build trust at all levels.
- A hands-on, pragmatic approach – someone who’s visible on the factory floor as well as credible in the boardroom.
