How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Carmichael UK is working with a leading Tier 1 contractor delivering major infrastructure works on the HS2 project. We are currently seeking an experienced Section Engineer with earthworks and drainage experience to support delivery across a key section of the project in Buckinghamshire.

    This is an excellent opportunity to join one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure programmes, contributing to the successful delivery of large-scale earthworks and drainage packages.

    The Role

    As Section Engineer, you will support the management and delivery of earthworks and drainage works, ensuring activities are carried out safely, on programme, and in line with project specifications and quality standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    Oversee the delivery of earthworks and drainage packages including bulk earthworks, cut & fill, and surface/deep drainage

    Supervise site engineers and coordinate subcontractor activities

    Ensure works are delivered in line with programme, quality, and safety requirements

    Support planning, sequencing, and coordination of works across the site

    Manage engineering documentation including ITPs, inspections, and as-built records

    Monitor progress and support reporting and programme updates

    Liaise with project teams, client representatives, and key stakeholders

    Requirements

    Proven experience as a Section Engineer, Senior Engineer, or Site Engineer within civil engineering or infrastructure projects

    Strong experience delivering earthworks and drainage works

    Previous experience on major infrastructure or rail projects is highly advantageous

    HNC, HND, or Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline

    Good understanding of engineering documentation including ITPs, inspections, and quality records

    Strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills
