How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Title: Temporary Lecturer – Automotive (Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair)

    Contract Type: Temporary (Full-time), likely through to the end of the summer term

    About the Role

    TeacherActive is delighted to be supporting a leading further education college in recruiting a dedicated and enthusiastic Temporary Lecturer in Automotive – Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.

    We are seeking a knowledgeable and confident industry professional or experienced lecturer to deliver engaging, hands-on teaching across a range of automotive programmes. You will play a key part in developing learners’ practical skills, technical understanding, and professional readiness for industry progression.

    This temporary position is expected to run until the end of the summer term.

    Role Purpose

    Your primary responsibility will be to deliver high-quality, inclusive lessons and assessments within Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair. You will help learners build strong workshop skills, sound mechanical knowledge, and the confidence required to succeed in their future careers.

    You will also contribute to curriculum development, assessment processes, and the ongoing improvement of the Automotive department.

    Key Responsibilities

    Teaching & Learning

    Deliver engaging, practical, and theory-based sessions across automotive programmes
    Ensure teaching aligns with awarding body requirements and college standards
    Prepare and update Schemes of Work, learning materials, and assessment resources
    Embed English, Maths, and wider employability skills into vocational delivery
    Assessment & Administration

    Mark and assess learner work in line with qualification frameworks
    Provide clear, constructive feedback to support learner progress
    Maintain accurate records and complete necessary programme administration
    Contribute to internal verification and quality assurance processes
    Tutorial & Learner Support

    Act as a course tutor where required
    Support learners to set goals, stay on track, and achieve successful outcomes
    Monitor, review, and track learner progress effectively
    Teamwork & Industry Engagement

    Work collaboratively with the Automotive team to develop the curriculum
    Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry technologies, tools, and practices
    Support recruitment activities, open events, and employer engagement
    Contribute to the continuous development of teaching strategies and resources

    The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

    Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (essential)
    Up-to-date industry knowledge, tools, technology, and best practices
    A teaching qualification or a willingness to work towards one
    Experience teaching or supporting learners in a workshop setting (desirable)
    A passion for working with young people and shaping future technicians
    A strong commitment to Safeguarding and promoting learner wellbeing
    Excellent communication, organisational, and workshop management skills
