How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job title: Shift Engineer – Multi-Skilled (Electrical & Mechanical)
    • Location: Somerset
    • Shift Pattern: 2 days, 2 nights, 4 off (12-hour shifts)

    MacGregor Black are partnering with a well-established UK food manufacturing client based in Somerset. The business specialises in high-quality bakery and food-to-go products, supplying major retailers and foodservice customers across the country. Known for their focus on quality, food safety, and innovation, they are investing in their engineering team to ensure the smooth operation of their production site.

    We are seeking a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer to join a high-performing and collaborative engineering team. This is a permanent role, offering a competitive salary.

    In this role, you will play a critical part in maintaining production efficiency while supporting continuous improvement initiatives. You will work across electrical, mechanical, and automated systems to ensure plant machinery operates safely and reliably.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Deliver planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance across production and packaging machinery.

    * Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical faults quickly to minimise downtime and maintain production targets.

    * Work with PLCs, servo drives, and automated systems including conveyors and robotics.

    * Ensure compliance with health & safety, quality, and food safety standards.

    * Support the wider engineering and production teams, influencing process improvements and operational efficiency.

    * Maintain accurate maintenance records and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

    About You

    * Proven multi-skilled engineering experience, ideally in food manufacturing, FMCG, or production environments.

    * Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills, including PLC knowledge and experience with automation systems.

    * Experienced in planned maintenance (PPM) and reactive/breakdown repairs on production equipment.

    * Familiar with health & safety and food quality compliance in production settings.

    * Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work 12-hour shift patterns (2 days, 2 nights, 4 off).
