    Job description

Veterinary Surgeon – Independent Practice – Guildford
Strong surgical exposure, genuine clinical freedom, and a close-knit, experienced team

We’re working with a well-established independent practice in Guildford that has grown quickly and is now looking to add another Veterinary Surgeon to its experienced and supportive team.

This is a genuinely varied GP role offering a good balance of consulting and surgery, strong team support, and the opportunity to develop your clinical interests in a practice that actively encourages new ideas and investment in equipment.

The practice has built a loyal client base and a collaborative team culture, with experienced vets on hand and a leadership team that remains clinically involved and approachable.

    The Role

    Full-time or part-time considered
Flexible working with set days and hours where possible
    Mix of consulting and surgery
15-minute consultations (flexible depending on case)
Dedicated admin time built into the day
    1-hour lunch break
Surgical exposure is varied and consistent, including routine procedures as well as more involved cases such as:

Neutering and routine soft tissue surgery
    Lump removals
    Splenectomies
    Emergency procedures
    OOH involvement:

    1 night per week on-call
    1 in 4 weekends (daytime)
    Time off in lieu provided
Additional earnings from OOH cases (10–20% of work carried out)
Weekend work is sole charge, but weekdays are well supported with no sole charge expected.

    The Practice

    Independent, single-site small animal practice
Established 3 years with rapid growth
    Client base of approximately 4,000–4,500
    Facilities include:

    Digital X-ray
    Ultrasound
    Endoscopy
    In-house IDEXX laboratory
    Access to CT via referral
    Ongoing investment in new equipment
The practice is proactive with technology and open to purchasing new equipment based on clinical need.

    Team Structure

4 vets with a mix of experience levels
Strong nursing team including experienced RVNs and support staff
Consistent daily support with multiple vets on site
Leadership team (owners) remain involved and accessible
The culture is friendly, down-to-earth and collaborative. There is a clear focus on teamwork, with no hierarchy and an emphasis on everyone contributing equally.

    Clinical Scope

Broad GP caseload with a good mix of medicine and surgery
Opportunity to work cases up fully
    Regular exposure to surgical procedures
Referral links for advanced orthopaedics and imaging
There is scope to develop specific interests, with support from the team and investment in equipment where appropriate.

    What They’re Looking For

    RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon
Confident with routine surgery and consultations
Comfortable with some sole charge (weekends only)
    Team-oriented with a collaborative approach
Keen to develop clinically and contribute to the practice
Some support with surgery is available, but a basic level of confidence is expected.

    Progression & Development

    Unlimited CPD budget
    Certificates fully funded
Supportive environment for developing clinical interests
Exposure to a wide range of cases
The practice encourages vets to shape their role and pursue areas of interest.

    Why This Opportunity Stands Out

Independent practice with real clinical freedom
    Strong, stable and experienced team
Good surgical exposure in a supportive setting
    Flexible working patterns available
Genuine investment in equipment and development
    Friendly, non-hierarchical culture
    Additional OOH earning potential
This is a practice where vets are trusted, supported and encouraged to grow.
