How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Pattern of Work – 36.5 hours, Monday - Friday

    What you need to know about the role

    We’re looking for a creative, proactive Marketing & Communications Lead to help elevate our brand and strengthen our presence across the industry. This is a dynamic role where you’ll shape how our company is seen, heard, and experienced by customers around the world.

    You’ll be at the heart of how we communicate with the world — shaping our reputation, supporting our customers, and ensuring our brand stands out in a competitive marketplace. It’s a fantastic opportunity for someone who loves variety, thrives on creativity, and wants to make a visible impact.

    Key responsibilities

    * Creating and publishing compelling content across a wide range of channels, including our website, brochures, videos, social media, press releases, e‑flyers, posters, and presentations.

    * Driving the ongoing development and evolution of our marketing materials to ensure they support our customers and reflect our brand at its best.

    * Acting as deputy to the Communications Manager when required, helping to guide the wider communications function.

    * Playing a key role in protecting, strengthening, and championing our brand across all touchpoints.

    * Leading the planning and delivery of our customer events calendar, both in the UK and internationally — from exhibitions and conferences to seminars, awards ceremonies, and trade shows.

    * Providing regular performance reports on marketing activities, using robust measurement tools to evaluate impact and inform future strategy.

    What we need to know about you

    We’re looking for a talented, self-assured marketing professional with a proven track record in delivering impactful communications. Ideally, you’ll bring at least three years’ experience in marketing and/or communications management within a major organisation. Experience in the steel or manufacturing sectors would be a bonus, but it’s not essential — we’re far more interested in your ability to deliver outstanding work.

    You’ll need to demonstrate a strong history of developing and executing proactive, customer‑focused campaigns that build brand awareness and enhance reputation. Experience managing budgets and working with creative software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Premiere Pro would be highly advantageous. Confidence with PowerPoint and Excel is essential, and experience producing video content and publishing via web management systems and social media platforms will help you stand out.

    Strong relationship‑building skills are vital. You’ll work closely with colleagues across the business — including senior leaders — as well as external agencies and suppliers, so the ability to collaborate, influence and communicate effectively is key.

    What we can offer you
    We know our employees are our greatest asset and alongside the great benefits packages we offer, we continue to invest in their careers by providing a huge range of training and development opportunities.

    Whatever your stage in life, you'll find a range of benefits to complement your work-life balance. The benefits you'll enjoy include:

    * Defined contribution company pension scheme

    * 27 personal annual leave days + statutory bank holidays

    * Life Assurance

    * A comprehensive Company sick pay scheme

    * Health Cash Plan via our partnership with Simply health

    * Employee Assistance Programme

    * Standby and call-out payments

    * Family friendly benefits including enhanced maternity, paternity, and adoption leave.

    What you need to know about us
    British Steel is a leading European steel manufacturer, supplying premium long products around the world.

    We take great pride in our history and heritage. Not many companies can claim to have generations of families dedicating their working lives to one company, one industry. Steel gets into your blood, and this drives the passion of our people. And these 2 values deliver our third value of performance – making the products our customers want now and in the future.

    British Steel has a bright future and we want you to be part of it.

    British Steel is an armed forces friendly company, and we actively encourage applications from ex-Armed Forces Personnel, Reservists, Armed Forces Veterans and military spouses/partners.

    We may close this vacancy sooner than planned if we receive a high volume of suitable applications. To ensure your application is considered, we encourage you to submit it as soon as possible
