    Role - Management Accountant

    Location - Glasgow

    Contract type - Permanent, full time + hybrid (part-time offered as well!)

    Salary- up to £35,000 per annum

    Hours - M-F 9am-5pm


    Eden Scott is delighted to be partnering with Citizens Theatre as they seek an experienced Management Accountant to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to one of Scotland’s most iconic cultural institutions during a period of renewed growth and transformation.


    Citizens Theatre (the Citz) is recognised as one of Scotland’s leading producing theatres, rooted in its Gorbals community while maintaining a distinctly international perspective. It is celebrated for bold interpretations of classic works and impactful new plays that reflect contemporary Scotland.



    Purpose of the Role:


    The Management Accountant plays a key role in delivering accurate and timely financial information to support decision-making across the Citizens Theatre.


    Reporting to the Head of Finance, the postholder is responsible for the preparation of management accounts, maintaining the integrity of financial data, and supporting budget holders across the organisation. The role also contributes to financial control, process improvement, and the effective operation of the finance function.


    Responsibilities:

    Management Accounting and Reporting


    • Prepare timely and accurate management accounts, including income and expenditure reports, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analysis.
    • Provide clear commentary and insight to support understanding of financial performance.
    • Support budget holders in the preparation of financial reports for activity, including variance analysis and forecasting
    • Support budget holders with cost reporting and control, ensuring accurate tracking of budgets and expenditure, and providing financial information and guidance where required
    • Prepare regular trading reports to analyse trends, income streams, and overall financial performance.
    • Provide insight into key drivers of performance, highlighting risks and opportunities.
    • Support the organisation in understanding audience, commercial, and fundraising income trends through financial analysis.
    • Assist in the month-end process, ensuring deadlines are met and financial data is complete and accurate.


    Financial operations



    • Collate and process income from ticket and bar sales, donations and merchandise from multiple systems across the organisation
    • Support the development and continuous improvement of finance procedures and controls.
    • Ensure compliance with organisational financial policies and processes.
    • Contribute to maintaining strong internal controls and audit readiness.
    • Support sales & purchase ledger processes as required, including processing invoices and assisting with supplier queries.
    • Ensure expenditure is accurately coded and recorded in the financial system.
    • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately.
    • Perform regular balance sheet reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner.
    • Support general finance administration tasks, ensuring accurate record-keeping and documentation.
    • Assist with audit preparation and provide supporting documentation as required.
    • Assist with external reporting including Office of National Statistics and funders
    • Process and post monthly and weekly payroll journals accurately.
    • Reconcile payroll-related balance sheet accounts.

    Person Specification:


    Essential


    • CCAB Qualified, part qualified or equivalent experience.
    • Experience preparing management accounts and financial reports.
    • Strong numerical and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
    • Experience of reconciliations and maintaining financial ledgers.
    • Good understanding of financial processes and controls.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
    • Good IT skills, including experience with financial systems and Excel.
    • Self-starter, with the ability to organise and administer a busy workload
    • Discretion when handling confidential or sensitive information


    Desirable


    • Experience working in the arts, cultural, or charity sector.
    • Experience supporting project or production-based financial reporting.
    • Knowledge of payroll accounting.
    • Experience of working with multiple income streams.
    • Experience of working in a busy office environment.
