    Job description

We're supporting a high-hazard industrial operation in the search for a Permitting Officer to play a key role in ensuring safe, compliant and efficient work execution across site.

Operating within a fast-paced production environment, you'll act as the focal point for Permit to Work (PTW) activities—coordinating between production, maintenance, engineering and contractors to ensure all work is delivered in line with robust safety and compliance standards.

This is a critical position for someone who thrives in structured environments, takes ownership of safety systems, and is confident influencing behaviours across multidisciplinary teams.

    The Role

Coordinate daily permit activities across production, maintenance and engineering teams
Act as the primary PTW Issuer, ensuring all permits are correctly prepared, issued and closed
Conduct pre-job site visits to verify readiness, hazards, and isolation requirements
Validate and enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures
Clearly communicate hazards, controls and site restrictions to all stakeholders
Maintain a professional and controlled work environment to support accurate permit management
Develop and maintain permit records, ensuring full traceability and audit readiness
Support post-job verification to confirm work completion and safe reinstatement Key Responsibilities

Ensure all permitted work is executed safely, efficiently and in line with site procedures
Act as a subject matter expert for Safe Systems of Work and PTW
Drive compliance through coaching and mentoring of permit issuers and acceptors
Establish competency standards across PTW stakeholders
Develop and monitor KPIs to measure compliance, conformance and efficiency
Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities within work control processes
Maintain accurate documentation for permits, isolations and associated activities What We're Looking For

Proven experience within a high-hazard or process environment (chemical, energy, manufacturing or similar)
Strong working knowledge of Permit to Work systems and Safe Systems of Work
Understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM) principles
Experience coordinating work between multiple disciplines on site
Confident communicator with the ability to influence and challenge where required
Highly organised with strong attention to detail
Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement Experience within a COMAH environment is advantageous but not essential.

    Key Competencies

    Strong safety awareness and accountability
    Effective communication and collaboration
    Relationship building across operational teams
    Problem-solving and decision-making capability
High levels of organisation and time management
    Continuous improvement mindset Why Apply?
This is an opportunity to take ownership of a critical safety function within a complex industrial environment, contributing directly to safe operations, compliance, and operational excellence
